Cllr Rory Love and Cllr George Bunting have been re-elected to represent Harvey West ward in the District Council elections held on 3rd May 2007.
The two Conservative candidates received 2 out of every 3 votes cast in the election, and polled over 860 votes each, an increase of nearly 45% on their results in the last local elections in 2003. Harvey West ward had the highest turnout in Folkestone, at 41.9% .
The Liberal Democrats’ vote fell to less than half of their 2003 score, and the United Kingdom Independence Party failed to reach 3 figures.
The failure of the Shepway Independent Party to gain even a single seat on the Council caused little surprise in the ward. Most Harvey West electors were unimpressed by their misleading statements and miscalculations over Shepway’s finances on their election literature.
After the successful result, Cllr Rory Love said: “We should both like to thank all those who have entrusted us to speak up on their behalf. It is always a privilege to be elected by our ward’s residents to represent them. Both George and I shall now set about fulfilling the pledges we made during the campaign.”
Cllr George Bunting said: “We will continue to work for the Ward, and will remain especially vigilant over planning applications. We will be available for all electors, irrespective of their political persuasion.”
