Time to End Sandgate Road Closure Blight say Love and Bunting

Rory and George at the road closure “Enough is enough” say Rory and George in Sandgate Road

Harvey West ward councillors, Rory Love and George Bunting have said “enough is enough” of the inconvenience and danger caused by Southern Water’s continuing closure of Sandgate Road.

Throughout the summer, Rory has pressed Kent Highways and Southern Water to tell him exactly what is going on with the road closure, which has now been in place for around 18 months. Last month, George demanded the matter be put on the agenda of the Joint Transportation Board, which met last night. George used his Chairmanship of the Board to call time on the conspiracy of silence surrounding the phantom road works.

Rory and George have pointed out that residents in Harvey West ward have been dealt a “double whammy!” Not only do the Sandgate Road residents face continuing disruption, but residents in Earl’s Avenue and Bouverie Road West also have to put up with the additional, diverted traffic. The councillors are particularly concerned that Bouverie Road West and its junction with Earl’s Avenue are unsuitable for the volumes of traffic, and they fear a serious accident.

The two councillors said after the meeting:

“We have been told that Kent Highways have extracted a commitment from Southern Water that they will start work to re-line their sewer at the end of the month. We will believe it when we see it! And if we don’t see it, then we will hound Southern Water until they explain to our ward’s residents why they are continuing to cause them problems.”
