Shepway Member Wins Key Position Among Conservative Councillors
David Cameron and Eric Pickles congratulating Cllr Rory Love on his election as Treasurer of the Conservative Councillors’ Association
A Shepway councillor, Rory Love from Folkestone’s Harvey West ward, has been re-elected unopposed to the key position of National Treasurer of the Conservative Councillors’ Association (CCA).
Rory first won the position in a hotly contested election last year, but this time, when he announced he would stand again in the annual elections, he was given a clear run. It is thought that his successful stewardship of the CCA’s finances during the current recession was well-regarded by fellow Conservative councillors. The election success effectively gives the Shepway councillor the number 3 position at the helm of the representative body of 9000 Conservative councillors across England and Wales.
The announcement was made at the Conservative Local Government Conference held in Leeds last weekend. Rory was congratulated by Party Chairman Eric Pickles MP, and the Shadow Local Government Minister, Bob Neill MP.
Cllr Rory Love said:
“It is an honour to be re-elected unopposed to the Board of the Conservative Councillors’ Association.
“Conservative councillors are working closely with Shadow Ministers on plans to shift responsibility, power and control away from central Government and back to local people and communities. As a Folkestone councillor, it is a privilege to fulfil such a role in the Party that has a good chance of forming the next Government and implementing this progressive vision to empower local people.”
