Rory Love Launches Website to Help Residents Object to Shepway’s Parking Ban
A Shepway councillor has received so many complaints about a proposed parking ban, that he has launched a new website to help residents of his ward send in objections to the proposal.
Cllr Rory Love, who represents Folkestone’s Harvey West ward, says residents of his ward will be among the first to suffer under a proposal to paint yellow lines in front of people’s driveways. He says this means that residents and their visitors will be banned from parking in front of their own driveways, and will be liable to a £70 fixed penalty notice for doing so; even if they have paid £25 for an annual residents’ parking permit!
Over time, the Council intends to paint yellow lines in front of driveways of residents throughout the District as residents’ parking schemes are extended.
As well as setting up the website, www.itsmydriveway.org.uk , Cllr Love has made a YouTube video to explain the issue and help residents and their visitors object to the proposal. But, he warns, the timetable is tight. Objections must be received by the Council by Midday on Monday, 7th September.
Rory Love said:
“According to the Council’s own survey, a majority of residents who live in roads in my ward are against this ban. Sometimes, when parking is tight in a busy road, the only place you can park is in front of your own driveway. Why should the Council stop you doing that? It doesn’t harm anyone else. The number of parking spaces will be slashed under this proposal.
“I fully support residents’ parking zones where residents want them, but all I’m saying is if you pay £25 a year for a parking permit, surely you should be allowed to park in front of your own driveway? If we have enough objections, we can stop this proposal in its tracks.”
